How to set up and look after a paddling pool

How to set up and look after a paddling pool
In short

Stand it on a level, cushioned surface, connect a filter, cover it when it is not in use and keep the chlorine dose low. That keeps the pool clean and good-looking for years.

Step by step

  1. Stand it on a level surface

Place the container on a flat, level spot, on a surface that will not let bathers' feet carry dirt into the pool.

Do not stand it on gravel or stones: the weight of the water will bend the metal and damage the container permanently.

Stand the container on concrete or a wooden deck, and in any case put a layer between the container and the surface: pool foam, artificial grass, a good-quality mat or similar.

  2. Connect a filter and pump

So that you do not have to empty the water after every use, connect the pool to a filter and pump (we recommend a sand filter, which needs almost no maintenance for many months). The filter clears the water of floating particles such as hair, skin flakes and physical dirt.

Usually, depending on the type and size of the filter, one hour of running a day is enough. A timer switch can run it automatically. Read and follow the importer's and manufacturer's instructions for connecting and running the filter.

  3. Keep electricity and water apartSafety

Do not bathe while the pump is running; it is best to unplug it before getting into the water. In public places, all electrics near the container should be earthed.

  4. Cover it when it is not in useSafety

Cover the pool when it is not in use. A soft cover keeps out leaves, dust, insects and the like, and also prevents evaporation and changes in the water level.

Only a fitted rigid cover, or a fence around the pool, protects children and prevents falls. Use is at the user's responsibility alone.

  5. Chlorine: keep the dose low

With a floating chlorine dispenser, keep the dose of chlorine in the water low, because the volume of water in these containers is relatively small. In our containers we recommend cutting the chlorine tablet in two and putting half a tablet in the dispenser. Set it to its minimum opening and leave it in the pool for no more than an hour a day, while the pump is running.

Test strips can be used to monitor the chlorine level. Too high a dose of chlorine may fade the paint.

  6. Look after the paint and the structure

Do not alter the structure of the container, or the silicone or resin seals in it.

The pool is painted with an epoxy paint made for chlorinated pools. Avoid scratching the paint with sharp, hard objects or toys. It is best not to move the pool once it is in place; unnecessary movement may make the paint come away from the container.

If the coating is damaged, contact us to order a touch-up paint kit. The shade may change slightly over time because of the sun and the water.

  7. A scratch on the outside? Easily repaired

If there are scratches on the outside or damage to the galvanising, clean well with fine sandpaper and spray with galvanising spray.
